27th: Australia 60-5 (Smith 25, Green 0)

Australia in some conflicts now, Wood gets Head and they just don’t have an answer to Wood’s short duration and pace. Green is next to receive her, and the first hammers on her bat’s joint. The wood shortens upwards, and approaches, one leg raised and the gloves in front of the face. It’s not pretty. So he will have another one. He does, and Head tries to turn it around, but hits his glove. He was agitated. More will come! Incorrect, double bluff, and Head misses a half volley from the touch of the leg hitting the pad.

24th: Australia 54-4 (Smith 23, Chapter 6)

It doesn’t take long for Head to show a square, he’s been doing it since Broad’s first, but there’s a man on the edge. Broad is very direct with Smith, who seems uncomfortable trying to defend him from there. But the margins are good, as Broad is an inch too straight and Smith sends it to his long leg. 22nd: Australia 47-3 (Smith 22, Boland 8)

Smith turns off the first ones before hitting Broad in front of the square for four. Crunchy. They move a man to the exact point of the limit. He tries to work the next one inside and fails, hits the pad, the appeal is rejected. Sounds loud, Broad wants the review, he doesn’t understand. Repetition shows that it is high. Then Smith takes one in the middle of the harbor.

20th: Australia 37-3 (Smith 17, Boland 3)

Smith starts with a sleeveless vest, Boland just needs a shirt. A quiet start for Broad v Smith: wide crowd, leaves and defense. A maiden to begin with, there are no gremlins to report.
